Installation Guide
Learn how to install and configure ZoteroCopilot for your research workflow.
Prerequisites
Before installing ZoteroCopilot, make sure you have:
- Zotero desktop application installed(Currently only supports Zotero 7)
- Internet connection
Installation Steps
1. Download ZoteroCopilot
Download the latest version from our download page.
2. Install the Extension
- Open Zotero
- Go to Tools > Plugins
- Click the gear icon and select "Install Plugin From File"
- Select the downloaded zotero-copilot.xpi file. Then click Open.
- The Zotero Copilot plugin will be installed.
- Now you can find the Zotero Copilot icon in Zotero's toolbar.
After installation, you can click the Zotero Copilot icon to start the Chat sidebar. But you need to configure the large model before you can use the Zotero Copilot.
3. Configuration
ZoteroCopilot Plugin do not provide large model service, you need to configure the large model yourself, you can set the large model in the ZoteroCopilot settings.
- Open ZoteroCopilot LLM settings page
- Choose the llm model provider you want to use(you can choose DeepSeek or Ollama or OpenRouter. More LLMs will be supported in the future.) First click the Enable button. Then click the selected llm model provider.
- Then you can set the llm model provider's API key.(In this example, we use DeepSeek.)
- After you input the API key, befor click the SAVE button, you need to click the Enable button on the model that you want to use.
- Now you can use the Zotero Copilot.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during installation:
- Check Zotero version compatibility
- Restart Zotero after installation
